This was an unexpected reveal from Elon Musk at the last day of Tesla’s AI Day event. Musk pointed out some of the details of the unusual, slim-trim robot which was beyond mere PowerPoint slides. It is 5-foot and 8-inches in height and is built from very light weight materials which constitute its weight of 125 pounds.

The head of the robot is supposed to be fitted with autopilot cameras which we see in Tesla cars as well for sensing the surroundings. It will also accompany a screen on the front to display various information. The robot will operate internally via Tesla’s Full-Self Driving computer.

Also, in a funny way, Elon Musk joked “It’s intended to be friendly,” and “navigate through a world built for humans”.

How did the Tesla Bot come to light during the Tesla AI event?

During the event, the robot made its debut after a 90-minute presentation on some of the recent developments of Tesla in the field of AI. It included the artificial intelligence upgrades which are used for driving Tesla’s electric cars; a Dojo supercomputer which helps the electric cars in training to navigate the city streets without any human inputs.

Musk commented, “it makes sense to put that feature onto humanoid form”.

The robot’s supposed specifications were detailed throughout three slides. One thing to mention, Elon Musk pointed out that you can do both: outrun the Tesla Bot and also “overpower it”.

We already know that, in the past Elon Musk criticized the use of robots and called them weapons, and also warned the people about the risks of AI it might pose in the future.

During a QnA session after the presentation, he stressed on this topic again and said, “We should be worried about AI”. He also said that, we at Tesla are trying to make useful AI technology which will make this feature useful for people to love and use and also, unequivocally good.

Keeping everything aside, Tesla Bot’s main intent is to eliminate “dangerous, repetitive, and boring tasks”. With an example, Elon Musk suggests that robots could be assigned some normal tasks. Like “going to the grocery store and buying some daily needs items”.

This task might not seem to be particularly dangerous. But at some point, it can become a usual chore and repetitive as well.

Elon Musk made some bold statements about the future. He said that physical work in the future will be a choice. If you want to do it, you can, but you won’t feel the need for it.

At this point of time, where technology is advancing day by day, it’s really hard to say how far off such a future might be. There lies a great gap between sharing some PowerPoint slides and actually delivering the product.

It will probably take some years for the technology to mature to actually deliver the desired results. But, Elon Musk has said that there will be a prototype available next year.

Comment down your views about this future technology and expectations from Tesla.

Till then, stay safe and healthy.
