The new iPhone 13 series launch is not too far away from now, and people are eagerly waiting for what Apple has in the house this time around. Apple officially never teases their unreleased products, but we now have a clear picture of the upcoming iPhone 13 series, courtesy of many reports and leaks.
Rumors and Leaks About the Upcoming iPhone 13
From what we have known so far, the iPhone 13 is expected to come with a 120 Hz LTPO display on the Pro models. In addition to that, you will get an improved battery life courtesy of a more efficient 5G modem. Some substantial upgrades in the camera department are also welcomed, including a new portrait video mode.
As for the design, the new iPhones will have a smaller notch as compared to previous models, and we can expect four devices to launch, just like the iPhone 12 series. Other rumors also suggest that there could be a port less version of the new iPhone, but that seems to me a vague call. Finally, we will also get to see Always-On Display support on the iPhone 13 series.
Other rumored features include:
- New A15 Bionic chip
- Improved 5G modem
- Portrait video mode and astrophotography
- In-display Touch ID
- Always-On Display (AOD)
- 120 Hz refresh rate on Pro models
- Larger batteries on all the models
- Improved ultra-wide lenses on the Pro models

Release Date of the iPhone 13 Series
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the launch of the iPhone 12 series was pushed to October 13, but this time it is expected to come at the usual timeline, i.e. September.
Previously, at the time of the iPhone 12 series, Apple already conveyed about the launch delay of the iPhone. But this time around, Apple didn’t call out for any type of delays. Although there have been some supply chain and chipset shortage issues, that doesn’t seem to affect Apple’s plans.
Pricing of the iPhone 13 Series
Currently, there are no clues about the pricing of the latest iPhone 13 series. Still, we can definitely make out an estimated price by comparing it with the iPhone 12 range, i.e. $699, $799, $999 and $1,099, respectively, for the models in order of lowest to highest.
Rumors suggest that the new iPhone 13 series will come in the exact sizes as the iPhone 12 series; 5.4-inch for the iPhone 13 mini, 6.1-inch for the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Pro and 6.7-inch for the Pro Max model.
A 5G ready iPhone SE is also in the works, but I think there’s still a year left for it to release. And the foldable iPhone is also in the works simultaneously.
Specifications of the iPhone 13 Series
Let us have a look at the specification sheet of the upcoming iPhone 13 series.
The display sizes of the iPhone 13 series are supposed to be the same as the iPhone 12 models. But this time, Apple could offer a 120Hz refresh rate on the Pro and Pro Max models. This will result in smoother scrolling as well as smooth gameplay and video playback.
Another update will be the utilization of LTPO display panels supplied by Samsung. With the implementation of LTPO panels, there is no need to add extra hardware for enabling an adaptive refresh rate. It also improves the power consumption of the display.
We may now finally get Always-On display support also with the iPhone 13 series. It is a feature that Android phones have been offering for a while, and now iPhones are there too.
One significant upgrade would be the chipset, which will be the A15 Bionic chipset. Already the A14 Bionic chip is a potent mobile processor. We will get to see even dope performances this time.
The new A15 Bionic chip will come with a significant boost in performance and more efficiency. Possibly, it could be based on a 4 nm fabrication process; the A14 Bionic chipset is based on a 5 nm node.
Another upgrade could be in the storage department with the iPhone 13 models to come with up to 1 TB of internal storage. However, it is just rumoured, the feature may or may not come. Other than that, the storage variants will vary from 64 GB to 512 GB.
The iPhone 13 models could get a better 5G connectivity hardware due to the implementation of the Qualcomm X60 5G modem. It will result in better 5G capabilities and also better power efficiency.
This X60 modem is also based on a 5 nm node, so it has a smaller footprint and integrates directly onto the SoC. It has the capability to combine the mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks at the same time. Further, the iPhone 13 series will also come with Wi-Fi 6E support.

With every new iPhone series, we get to see a new version of the iOS. This time it’s the turn for iOS 15, which we got a glimpse of at the WWDC June event.
The new iOS 15 will bring many new upgrades and optimizations. Firstly, we will get to see updates regarding FaceTime which allows you to video call with others. Next, we will get a Focus Mode in which notification badging and optimizations in multiple apps like Maps, Wallet, Messages, Weather and many more.
One interesting feature we are expecting is the ”predictive charging notifications”. This feature will learn from the phone usage habits and charging habits. It will then inform you for charging before the battery drains fully and make sure that you are in the right place to plug in your phone.
Cameras will be the main highlight and come with great improvements with the iPhone 13 series. Starting off with the Pro and Pro Max models, they will now have a new 6-element ultra-wide lens. The more the elements in a lens, the better is the picture quality. For comparison, the iPhone 12 Pro models come with a 5-element lens.
According to the rumours, the ultra-wide lens will also come with auto-focus for the first time. This will result in clearer and sharper ultra-wide shots.
Moreover, some dummy iPhone 13 models were featured by Unbox Therapy which had noticeably bigger lenses. This will allow the sensors to let in more light, which will help in better daylight shots and low-light photography as well.
We also get to see bigger camera modules as compared to the iPhone 12 series. This is possibly due to the implementation of bigger and improved sensors. According to rumours, the cameras will have larger apertures. The ultra-wide lens will now have an f/1.8 aperture in the iPhone 13 models along with the 6-element lens.
Now, we can expect all the iPhone 13 models to come with Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization, a feature that is only available in the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization is an improved version of the Optical Image Stabilization. It outputs even smoother videos and distortion-free photos.
Portrait video mode is also one of the most anticipated camera’s features with the iPhone 13 series. Through this mode, you can get the bokeh effect in the videos too. Moreover, you will also be able to tune the depth of field, which will give you a customized blurred effect.
One last thing would be the inclusion of LiDAR sensors in the vanilla iPhone 13s as well. The LiDAR sensor helps in better autofocus, AR capabilities. But we are not 100% sure about the inclusion of this feature in the vanilla models.
iPhones are infamous for their not so impressive battery lives. But the iPhone 12 Pro Max had a fairly good battery life as opposed to previous iPhones. Some reports suggest that the iPhone 13 series may come with soft battery technology, which will help in increasing the battery capacity without any larger footprint.
This time the iPhone 13 Pro Max may have a massive 4,352 mAh battery as opposed to the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which had a 3,687 mAh battery. Other models will also get some increments in their battery capacity.
As for the charging, the iPhone 12 series maxes out at 20 W fast charging support. This time we can expect the wattage to increase to 25 W as per some leaks. Reverse wireless charging could also be on offer, this time with the iPhone 13 series.
With every new iPhone, there is always an extensive discussion about what new color variants would offer. The launch of the iPhone 13 series is inching closer, and we have some of the rumors about the alleged color variants on offer.
Rumors suggest that the Space Gray color may have a comeback and a new Matte Black shade for the iPhone 13 Pro. Some concept designs were also seen with a mix of Orange and Bronze shades.
Other rumors also suggest that there could be a pink color variant, which sounds lame. But we aren’t sure if it is really the truth. Also, there are chances that this year iPhone models can come with some unusual color shades.
